Manor House

fully integrated home | RETROFIT LIGHTING CONTROL | HVAc | AV DISTRIBUTION | MOTORISED TVS | MEDIA ROOM

Where old meets new

On this project we were brought in to provide a fully integrated home as part of a complete renovation of an existing property. The property was a Grade 2 listed Queen Anne building so we were incredibly limited with the works that we could do in terms of infrastructure cabling as there was almost no allowance for the inherent disruption to existing ceilings and walls that new cables would make.

The details

The property was a family home and the clients wanted to use the power and versatility of an integrated system to combine all of their media, security and lifestyle requirements into an easy to use package. We designed, supplied and installed a complete Crestron system that gave them full control of their Audio, Video, Security, CCTV and Heating systems. We also installed a new wireless Lutron lighting system pushing the limits of what was possible with the new technologies available.

This project included

Wireless Lighting

This was one of the first large-scale residential projects using Lutron's wireless in-line dimming units and battery powered keypads and allowed us to harness the power of a lighting control system whilst working within the limitations imposed on a grade 2 star listed building and the fact that running in new cables was close to impossible. All of the dimming modules and keypads communicate wirelessly and the battery powered keypads last over 3 years between battery changes.

Motorised TV mechanisms

We have two TV mechanisms on this project. In the main lounge the TV is set into a small arched recess when not in use but the minute something is selected the TV and the sound bar rotate out into the perfect viewing position. The second is a hidden TV lift in the garden room which maintains fantastic views through the large sky frame. Windows were not in use, but rises up for viewing when needed.

Video over IP & SONOS AMPS

Video distribution was one thing that we knew could not be handled wirelessly but we also knew that it was going to be difficult to have the standard ‘home run’ cabling that we would typically use with a 4K matrix system. As such we decided that it would be the perfect place to use Crestron’s NVX video over IP system which promised pixel perfect 4K but enabled us to use a more distributed network cable layout.

Driven by the limitations we had with cabling, we needed to locate amplification within or very close to the rooms in cases where we wanted to use ceiling or wall mounted speakers. The newly released Sonos AMPs were perfectly suited to this as they were powerful enough to drive the speakers that we wanted to specify but also would only require a single network connection at a collection of amps.

Media Room

The cinema room was originally going to be the home to a projection system but when we looked at the elevation of the display wall and took into account the arched ceiling, we were going to be really limited by the size of screen that we could install. As such we ended up deciding that an 85” TV would be the best solution as it would only be slightly smaller than the largest projection screen we could fit but would get a great picture quality at a lower cost and so left more of the budget for the audio system. We installed a custom width Artcoustic SL HSPL soundbar, two Target SL speakers for the rear channels and a wall mounted Sub. We used an Anthem MRX for the processing and amplification. The results were stunning!
