The awe-inspiring conversion of a country cottage into a smart home, leverages the power of a fully integrated smart home system to enhance the lives of the homeowners and their family. As part of a complete renovation and expansion of an existing property we designed and installed a system to integrate all of their media, security and lifestyle requirements and brought that together with a powerful but simple to use interface.

The details
We designed supplied and installed a complete Crestron system that gave them full control of their Audio, Video, Security, CCTV and Heating systems in both the main house and the Entertainment building which is accessible from a link corridor off the main entrance hall. The clients were not previously on the cutting edge of technology but were eager to embrace all of the benefits that and integrated Home could offer, so we worked with them to give them the benefit of the powerful control systems, but with the simplest possible control.

To accentuate natural light, you can programme blinds, curtain track systems and skylight shutters to open at a set time in the morning and close at night or as desired. Shade rooms during the day or give the impression of occupancy while you’re away - all from the palm of your hand.
Custom Crestron
We started with our in house framework that has been developed and iterated on over the last decade and then customised that based on the clients requirements and requests. Focusing on the large screen TSW-1062’s as the interface that can do everything we use a sliding panel design to elegantly slide out the required buttons for selection of rooms or functionality, and then slide away once the user has made their selection. These were complimented with handheld remotes and custom applications on their handheld smartphones and tablets
Follow me
As they entertain frequently we implemented our ‘follow me’ feature on the TSW touch panels so that they can start their evening in the kitchen dining area and then move to the entertainment building and have their music or background video follow them. We accomplished this as the entrance hall is the middle point in the path from the dining area to the entertainment building so utilising the pinpoint beacons on the panels, if they leave position 1 (dining) and pass through position 2 (hallway) on their way to position 3 (entertainment lounge) the system will move the audio though the house on their journey.
Hidden TV
In the formal lounge the client wanted the ability to watch TV in there if needed but also didn’t want it to spoil the look of the room so we installed a lift and swivel Future Automation mechanism that raises the TV out of a built in bookcase and rotates it to the pre defined viewing angle. This is all automatic at the single press of a video source.
